fpa Responds To Research Into Sexual Behaviour Abroad In The Journal Sexually Transmitted Infections, UK
In response to the findings about sexual behaviour abroad from the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (NATSAL) Anne Weyman, Chief Executive, fpa said:
“It is worrying that this research shows people aren’t aware of the risks they may be taking with their sexual health when they have sex with new partners outside the UK.
“It is encouraging that there is some knowledge of the risks of contracting HIV but there are other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can be passed on through sexual contact such as chlamydia which if left untreated can affect men’s and women’s fertility.
“It is clear that people need more help and more information so that they can recognise the risks to their sexual health whether they are at home or abroad. There needs to be more targeted sexual health work for people who are going away whether it is for a weekend or a year. Health professionals can help people understand the risks and how to protect themselves by discussing sexual health when giving out other holiday health advice.”
